Entry Requirements
Minimum of 5 9-5 grades in GCSE examinations, including English and Maths, and a grade 6 in a Humanities subject.
Intent
Global politics is an exciting, dynamic subject that draws on a variety of disciplines in the social sciences and humanities.
This course consists of four core units: Power, Sovereignty & International Relations, Human Rights, Development, and Peace & Conflict. The course aims to give students:
- Understanding of key political concepts and contemporary political issues in a range of contexts.
- Understanding of the local, national, international and global dimensions of political activity.
- Understanding, appreciation and critically engagement with a variety of perspectives and approaches in global politics.
- Appreciation of the complex and interconnected nature of many political issues, and to develop the capacity to interpret competing and contestable claims regarding those issues.

Global Politics equips students with vital life skills that will help them survive and thrive in the world after school. Whether they choose further study at university or go straight into employment Global Politics provides essential insight into how political affairs will affect every aspect of their everyday lives.

Examination Information
Paper 1 (20%)
1 hour 15 minutes. 25 marks.
Stimulus-based paper based on a topic from one of the four core units. Four compulsory short-answer/structured questions.
Paper 2 (40%)
2 hours 45 minutes. 75 marks.
Extended response based on the four core units. Students must write three essays from a choice of eight, each selected from a different core unit.
Engagement Activity (20%)
20 marks. 2,000 word maximum.
A written report on a political issue explored through engagement and research.
Global Political Challenges (20%)
10 minute oral presentation
Two recorded oral presentations lasting 10 minutes each.
